The Equalizer: January 2025

NEWS FROM NATIONAL

Hello from the National Office!

As we step into the year 2025, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared and express my deepest gratitude for your unwavering support and dedication.

We are just wrapping up our final fundraising push for the end of 2024. If you have already donated recently, thank you for helping us fulfill our mission, to strive for equality for blind, deafblind and partially sighted Canadians in all aspects of society. If you have not yet donated, it is not too late! You can still reap the rewards of knowing that you have helped, by whatever means possible, to assist us in our goals.

In December, we held our eighth annual event in honour of the International Day of People with Disabilities, with seven thought-provoking speakers from across the country and two entertainers. We welcome you to sit back and watch this inspiring event on our YouTube channel!

As we look ahead to the opportunities and challenges that 2025 will bring, I am inspired by the collective strength of our community. With your continued support, we can reach even greater heights, extending our impact and touching more lives than ever before.

Thank you for being a vital part of this extraordinary journey. May the year ahead bring you joy, fulfillment, and the knowledge that your efforts are changing the world for the better.

Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy New Year filled with peace, prosperity, and purpose.

World Braille Days

Louis Braille famously said, “Braille is knowledge, and knowledge is power”. Each January on his birthday, we celebrate the gift Louis Braille gave the world.

The Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians (AEBC), Alternate Education Resources Ontario (AERO), Braille Literacy Canada (BLC), the Canadian Council of the Blind (CCB), the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA), the CNIB Beyond Print, CNIB Foundation, the National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS), and the Provincial Resource Centre for the Visually Impaired (PRCVI) are pleased to collaborate on a celebration of World Braille Day for the month of January.

In 2019, January 4th, the birth date of Louis Braille was officially designated as World Braille Day by the United Nations. Since 2020, several organizations have collaborated to co-host various events throughout January to celebrate and commemorate World Braille Day.
