FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE From Friday, April 26 to Sunday, April 28, 2019, the Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians (AEBC) is holding its 27th National conference and annual General Meeting at the Albert at Bay Suite Hotel, in Ottawa, Ontario. Workshops on Friday are free and open to the public; registration is not required. Topics include What’s New at the Canadian Human Rights Commission; Self-Advocacy, Accessibility, And Inclusion in The Workplace; Understanding the Violence - Prevention Needs of Women Who Are Blind or Vision-Impaired; Key Findings from Accessible Media Inc. 2019 Technology Monitor Research Study; Is There Still a Place for Independent Consumer organizations “of” Blind Canadians in a CNIB Dominated Canada?; The National Coalition of People who use Guide and Service Dogs in Canada: Past, Present and Future; and a Focus on Braille. Ten exhibiters will showcase their products and services at the 2019 AEBC Accessibility and Inclusion Exhibition - Accessible Media Inc. (AMI), T-Base Communications, Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind (CGDB), CNIB Ontario East, Frontier Computing, Get Together with Technology Canadian Council of the Blind (GTT CCB), HumanWare, Optelec Canada Inc., Ottawa Public Library and I-MED Pharma Inc. The conference will be addressed by Heather Walkus, a Community Developer, Organizer and Human Rights Advocate, who will discuss six decades of Human Rights Advocacy. The Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) and the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) will also discuss what’s new with their respective organizations and their role in the proposed Accessible Canada Act.
