Donations

It is with the help of our many members and sponsors who generously and continuously support the work of the Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians that we are able to explore, reveal and create possibilities for blind, deaf-blind, partially sighted Canadians and their families. The AEBC, as a consumer organization, does not receive ongoing funding from government to deliver programs to the community, and we are thus reliant on our supporters in order to carry out our work. Our organization's ultimate goal is to ensure equal access and full participation for the blind, deaf-blind and partially sighted in Canadian society.

Accomplishing this goal requires a strong voice in the planning and implementation of legislation and policies that affect our day-to-day lives. In addition to our ongoing public education and public awareness work, we provide:

  • Mentorship, a program linking blind mentors with young or newly blinded adults to help them adjust not only to the emotional impact but also help explore educational and career options;
  • Scholarships for outstanding blind students;
  • Publication of the Canadian Blind Monitor, a magazine that highlights our issues, concerns and achievements and published in formats such as Braille, audio, electronically and print
